Fair and safe for women and girls why doesn’t the minister just say it and why is it not reported that way. Get the facts out in the open , because for lay person who hasn’t been following this , may think some refs aren’t fair, or coaches aren’t fair. It can be misinterpreted wrongly.
So many people like to hide behind the faux argument that this issue is "complicated" and "complex". Well BS to that. Those of us who know that the mammalian sex binary is real find it glaringly simple to work out why men shouldn't be allowed to cheat their way to victory by competing against women. Because you can be "inclusive" or you can be fair, but you can't be both at the same time. If this wasn't true, then why are no trans "men" competing in the men's category?
Thank you, GAR, for another highly informative article, and your research and analysis. You are also an excellent writer: so clear, witty, and enjoyable to read. I'm curious about your thoughts to Rokker's comment.
Is there an email address we can send comments to that would influence this review? Either to the reviewers, Bishop, or to the mainstream press that will publish our sex-realist feminist comments?
I'm excited that this isn't about collegiate or pro sports, because community sports matter just as much. That is where girls get their start and encouragement to continue on, either recreationally or professionally. And fairness for women in community leagues matters just as much as in professional sports.
Thank you again, from California, which could use some better examples than the awful legislation we produce! My sincere apologies that my state sets such a bad example. We are working to change things here, but it's tough. We much never give up and keep working.
I reread Bishop's statement and it talks about fairness and safety generally not just on the field so I remain hopeful. That fairness and safety is even on the table is huge. And if people accept that 'inclusion' can come at the cost of fairness and safety on the field (because sex does matter) it will be much much harder to argue that sex doesn't matter in showers or bunk rooms etc.
We also now have an explosion of testimony from women and girls overseas, (maybe here too?) saying that males like Lia Thomas were indeed behaving inappropriately in changing rooms and the fixation on inclusion meant they were silenced from speaking out.
Also, talking to those who have been on this issue from early on, this is a substantial victory.
It will be of course very interesting to see what Sport NZ will do next. They are using InsideOUT as a partner who are very anti-reality. Can Sport NZ acknowledge girls and women and biological facts without imploding at the core? Could this lead to wider conversations about institutional capture and whether institutions that don't recognise the biological class of 51% of the population are fit for purpose.
Inside out involved !!!! Well that’s just great why them, why have any group involved ,it’s pretty much common sense, same sex sporting codes, same sex facilities end of. Not based on gender ID.
I agree Robin, it’s just BS everything has been turned on its head. Common sense should always prevail, but the persistent marginalised don’t see it like we do. We are sex realists, they live in fairy land. Inside out will slow everything down.
Brilliant work as ever, Garwhoungle, and quite the magic milestone of progress for this silly little, once rather great - for its size - country. This forecast, in particular, is so clear and hopeful I was almost aroused by it: 'Joyce shows how public common sense and clear-sightedness on these two issues are stepping stones that will help us dismantle the entire gender regime', especially the last bit. PLEASE let it be true. Thanks again and a very happy #XXDay to you.
While it's a kind of move in the right direction, I don't totally share your excitement. Chris Bishop still seems to be taking a soft approach on this issue and pandering to trans ideology.
The instructions regarding the re-write of the guidelines appears to be solely focused on the fairness in sport itself, ignoring the safety of women and girls in changing rooms. Where a certain sports code shows no advantage to trans women over real women then the trans women will be allowed to compete. How does that make real women's and girl's changing areas and toilets safe?
Hi Garwhoungle, that is good news for a change.
Thanks as ever

Inclusiveness is one of those stardust words right that is so sparkly it has blinded people to actual exclusion and prejudice going on.

"Common sense"? I nearly peed my pants I laughed so hard. If common sense had not lost its way, we wouldn't be here in the first place.
